Morning everyone! Ok, so maybe it won't be morning when you read this. Just know I was thinking of you all when I wrote it. Ok?
Anyway, I got a couple of new articles written at eHow that are very on topic. So, I thought I'd share them here.
I've posted in the past about how much I like the virtual academy, or online homeschool program, that we use. If you live in Washington State, you really should check out those posts and consider this great resource available to us. If you aren't in our state and are wondering if an online homeschool program in your state is a good fit for you, I've written an article about what things to consider:
How to Evaluate an Online Homeschool Program
Are you finding that your kids hate school? Complain a lot about it being boring, hard, or too easy? Do they cry when it is school time? Are battlelines drawn each day at math time? Are you feeling stressed or burned out? Considering putting the kids into public school? If you are struggling with homeschooling, perhaps your curriculum is hurting your success. Check out this article to decide if you need to look for something new so that homeschooling can be more a blessing than a chore.

I have enjoyed your blog very much. I am not sure how I missed that you used a virtual academy in the past but just caught up on that today. I was very disappointed and surprised. As a fellow homeschooler I would urge you to watch the trailer for the movie called "Exposing the Trojan Horse". By using these systems you put all homeschoolers not using the public system at great risk for their rights in the future. Please take a moment to check it out. If you can get your hands on the entire dvd, I highly recommend that you do.Thank you for your site and great information! Here is a link to the movie on Christian Heritage site or you can view it on You Tube http://resources.christianheritageonline.org/products/exposing-a-trojan-horse
I'd like to comment on that last comment. As a fellow homeschooling mom, one of the things I found the most exciting about homeschooling is the wide variety of options available to educate our kiddos, from programs that use state standard curriculum to the people who do radical unschooling and everything in between. Our park day group is filled with such a variety of these moms, and all are using the system that best helps their child learn. I would hate for anyone to try and pigeonhole homeschooling into a 'proper' form, as what works for one child will often fail with another. Once we classify a certain type of homeschooling as the 'right' one, we are no better than the public school systems we got away from in the first place.
That is a good article. I enjoyed reading it. Our virtual school allows you to pick and choose the classes you need or want to do. We did try it once, doing a class that was suppose to be super easy. It turns out the site is not user friendly to us newbies. We ended up quiting on the very last to do so. We even found out that my son was a week behind and we still can't figure that one out. Even though we had a horrible computer experience, I am sure we will try it again in the future. They offer classes I or our co-op, is not able to give him.
bobbie42~ I wholeheartedly agree with you. I was stunned when I found out about this. Using K12 programs and any homeschool resources through the public school system will eventually jeopardize our freedoms as homeschoolers to be able to even choose the curriculum that is right for us. I just merely hope that all homeschoolers are informed about what these programs are about and what their ultimate goal is, that is all. I do not want to offend or pigeonhole anyone. I just think we need to be informed, especially when it comes to government and their involvement with the training of our children. This video is made by HSLDA and many respectable people that help us with our homeschool freedoms. I will understand if you would like to delete my comment Joann. But I would ask that you get informed because I have seen letters you have written to government officials on this site and I know that you would want to be informed of this.
