A Date with My Son

Sam requested a date with me last week but we were unable to fit it in. We managed a short one today, and it was pretty fun.

Because it was a nice day, we went to Pt. Defiance Park to try to locate a certain tree on a certain trail. We were looking for Mountaineer Tree which, at 218 feet tall, is the tallest in the park. I don't think we found it. Next time, I'll print the park map and bring it with us.

We parked our car at an overlook and headed for the trail. After a while, I saw some cute, dainty, little mushrooms. I had to get a photo of them.

We eventually found the end of the trail at the beach. Sam climbed down and played for a while.

Because I was carrying Madelynn in a sling, I couldn't climb down with Sam. So, I sat at the top nursing her while enjoying the view of Sam's antics and the sailboats.

On the way back to our car, Sam spotted this slug. It was a perfect find as we needed a slug for our science. Our text suggests putting on in a glass pan in order to observe how they move. So we carried Bark (our name for him/her...they are hermaphroditic) and brought it home. When we were done with it, we release it into our back yard.

Then, on the way out of the park, we saw a dozen or so raccoons on the side of the road. They were just 2-3 feet away from the road, and were oh-so-cute! Too bad they aren't friendly.

It was a fun little date. Sam's already talking about doing it again, and talking plans about next year when we can visit the beach without Madelynn.

Looks like a very fun date. Much better than some I've been on. ;-)
