Swimming Lessons

Mika and Sam are currently taking swimming lessons at Kinder Swimmer. We tried swimming lessons at the YMCA a couple years ago but, after nine months of lessons twice a week, they still didn't know how to swim. In fact, they barely made any headway at all in swimming. In contrast, after only 6 weeks of lessons at Kinder Swimmer, both kids are able to swim across the pool on their own. While they still have a ways to go, that's progress!

This is how Mika usually tries to swim. She has always had a strong fear of water getting on her face. In fact, it made it very difficult to wash her hair; we had tears through age 7 with that. Finally, in the last year or so, she overcame enough of her fear to be able to shower which makes hair washing so much easier.

But, in only 6 weeks, she is able to put her face in the water. The only problem now is that after a couple of strokes, she doggy paddles to breathe and begins to panic. It's progress but there's still a long ways to go.

One of the requirements of the class is jumping off the diving board. As you can see, Sam has no issues at all with it. He loves this part of class.

At the end of class, they have toy time. Mika and Sam are racing across the pool with kick boards. With the boards and her head above water, Mika is pretty happy.

Here's their teacher, Kelsie. She's infinitely more patient with the kids than I am but still requires each segment of the class to be done, including doing certain things again as needed.

During class Josh and Maddie hang out. Usually Josh is wandering all over the place while Maddie is chewing on anything she can get her hands on or trying to crawl.

We're pretty happy with Kinder Swimmer. I just wish we had the money to continue swim lessons after our CVA funds run out.
