Sam's Math

Click photo to see a larger version.

The above is a photo of one of Sam's math pages. There's a couple of things that could be taken from this photo:

1. Sam really can do advanced math work for his age. At 7, he can solve for the unknown in fairly simple equations, multiply and divide mixed numbers, compare amounts with unlike measurements, and other problem types which are on the back. I don't have the paper in front of me so I can't tell you what was on the back. (BTW, I gave him 1/2 credit on problem 9 because his initial fraction was correct but he made an error when changing his answer to a proper mixed number. I want my kids to understand one value of showing your work: partial credit.)

2. Sam's not perfect. He got 2 1/2 problems wrong.

3. Sam's fine motor skills are not equal to his math skills. His chicken scratch is rather hard to read on his math papers, sometimes causing him to get problems wrong because even he can't always read it. I've started having him circle his final answer just so I can find it!
