Weight Loss

Well, yesterday I posted what we eat. Today, I'll happily tell you the results of our new diet.

By far, the easiest way for me to lose weight is to be forced onto a dairy free diet. When we discovered Mika's problems with dairy, we eliminated it from our household. I lost all of my pregnancy weight and an additional 15 pounds. I was pretty happy with the side effects of my diet even if I wasn't happy about losing my favorite food group.

Then I had two boys without major issues with dairy. (Actually, one of them had severe lactose intolerance but that was easily treated with supplements.) I never lost the weight I gained during their pregnancies. I was NOT happy about THAT!

Now I again have a dairy allergic nursing infant. Our family is again on a dairy free diet. And I have once again lost all of the weight I gained from my pregnancy and then some. As of today, I've lost the 17 pounds I gained during the pregnancy and an additional 25 pounds. Two more pounds and I'll match my lowest weight in two years. Three more pounds and I'll be lower than I've been since I was pregnant with Sam, who is now 8. I fully intend to reach the weight I was before I got pregnant with him, if not lower.

Scott is also losing weight.

What is interesting is that Scott and I both plateaued recently even though we continued eating dairy free. However, we watched Food Inc and King Corn about two weeks ago. Almost two weeks ago (it will be two weeks on Sunday), we went to a local meat store to buy locally raised meat. Everything is hormone and antibiotic free. The beef is mostly grass fed, though it is supplemented with grain. The pork is fed slops. I forgot to ask about the chicken but I know it is local. We started buying mostly organic produce and eggs. And both Scott and I began losing weight again. In the past 12 days, I've lost 5 pounds...without trying...without exercise.

I like this new diet. : )

That is totally awesome. I know restricting dairy helps me loss weight too. Interesting about changing the meats and going organic having that effect. I'm shooting for May being a big food change up here, so maybe we will see those effects. Well, I'm where I want to be weight-wise already, but if it helps out hubby that would be awesome.
