A friend found a bunch of baby tadpoles about two months ago and was kind enough to share. We put them in an old aquarium with some water from a local lake. We figured native water would work best and have a ready supply of food. We've been excitedly watching them grow. We have two of them.
Yesterday, one of them finally got his front legs. This morning, we were looking and looking for him and couldn't find him. Just as we were about to panic, we found him....sitting on the gravel out of the water. He's super cute and tiny.
He can hang onto the sides of the aquarium. Look at how translucent his feet are!
It didn't take long for him to find the rocks we added this morning.
The other tadpole seems to be stuck. He's only about a quarter of the size that this one got and doesn't even have the start of legs yet. I wonder if he'll ever develop.
Growing tadpoles has been a lot of fun. We were planning on ordering some, but I'm much happier about getting a native species so we can release him without worries.
